Redacter
Black out names in a folder of documents. Everything happens on this computer. Nothing is uploaded.
This browser can't open folders. Please use Google Chrome on a Chromebook, Windows or Mac.
1 Choose a folder
No folder chosen yet. Redacter reads PDF, Word (.docx), JPG and PNG files, including scanned pages, in the folder and its subfolders.
2 Names to black out
No names yet. Add every way the name appears: full name, first name alone, nicknames, surnames.
Paste a list instead
Capital letters, accents and punctuation don't matter ("MIA", "Mía" and "Mia's" all match "Mia"). Whole words only, so "Mia" won't black out "Miami". You'll check every match before anything is saved. This list is saved on this computer only.
3 Find the names
Finding names…
Keep this tab open.
This one is taking a while. Large or photographed pages can take a minute or more, especially on slower computers. It's still working, and you can press Cancel at any time.
Check what will be blacked out
Untick anything that isn't the person's name (for example an ordinary word that happens to be spelled the same). Everything is ticked to start with, so you only need to untick mistakes. Click a name to see its matches; untick by spelling, by file, or search for nearby words. “Show” zooms in on the page.
